Arundathi Nag is an actress, assistant director, and a recognized name in the theater community.

Arundathi Rao married actor and director, Shankar Nag, in 1954. Shankar Nag, who was the director of Malgudi Days, passed away in 1990.
The couple had dreamt of creating a platform for theater and in 2004, Arundathi Nag brought alive this dream when she opened the doors of Ranga Shankara in Bangalore.
Acting
Arundathi Nag has acted in movies like Mira Nair’s Kamasutra: A Tale of Love (1996) and Minsaara Kanuvu (1997). She was seen as Shahrukh Khan’s mother in Mani Ratnam’s Dil Se (1998). Her performance in Jogi (2008) won her the Best Supporting Actor Award from the Karnataka Government.
She was also a part of the prestigious Marathi movie, 22 June 1897.
In the 80s, she was the assistant director on the sets of A Passage to India (1984) and Indian Summer (1987).
She also acted in Haji Aavti Kaal Che, a Gujarati television series directed by Jyoti Vyas.

Arundathi Nag has been associated with Theater in India and the Indian People’s Theater Association.
She was and continues to be involved in theater, language no bar.
She founded Sanket in 1992 and is the Managing Trustee, while playwright Girish Karnad holds the position of Chairman.
