Asha Parekh Biography
Asha Parekh is a very famous actress of the 70s. She is also a director and producer. She is one actress who has given the maximum hits in Bollywood.

PERSONAL
Asha Parekh was born in Mahuva, Bhavnagar district, Gujarat on October 2nd, 1942. She comes from a middle class Gujarati family. Her mother was a Muslim and her father was a Gujarati. Asha was the only child and therefore received all the attention in her family. She started learning Indian classical dance at a young age and performed for many stage shows.

Asha is unmarried till now. It is said that she is very unapproachable and therefore people hesitated to ask her hand in marriage. There were rumours that she was involved with the director Nasir Hussain.

PROFESSIONAL
Asha Parekh started her career as a child artist. She acted in the movies Aasmaan (1952) and Baap Beti (1954) and a few more. But because of the failure of the movies, she decided to get back to her schooling. At the age of sixteen she decided to make a comeback in the film industry and she soon received a role from Subodh Mukherjee and writer-director Nasir Hussain in Dil Deke Dekho (1959) opposite actor Shammi Kapoor. And after the success of this she got the opportunity to act for six more movies by Nasir Hussain namely Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961), Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon (1963), Teesri Manzil (1966), Baharon Ke Sapne(1967), Pyar Ka Mausam(1969) and Caravan (1971).

Till these films she had a very tomboyish image but in Raj Khosla's movies namely Do Badan(1966), Chirag (1969) and Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (1978) she got a very serious kind of image and in movies like Pagla Kahin Ka(1970) and Kati Patang (1970) she got dramatic roles. She has acted in a couple of Gujrati, Punjabi and Kannada movies also.

In the later part of her life she started receiving roles of Bhabhi and mother so she left acting and started her career as a Television director. She has her own Production company named Akruti and has produced soaps like Palash ke Phool, Baaje Payal, Kora Kagaz and a comedy Dal Mein Kaala. For six years she remained a president for Cine Artistes' Association and was the first female to be the chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board) of India. She also became a treasurer of the Cine and Television Artists Association (CINTAA) and was elected for the officebearer post.

She has received many awards like the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002, Kalakar Award in 2004, International Indian Film Academy Awards in 2006, Pune International Film Festival Award (2007), Living Legend Award from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry(FICCI) and the Ninth Annual Bollywood Award (2007).

Asha has her own dance academy called Kara Bhavan. She also has a hospital in her name in Santa Cruz, Mumbai because of her contribution .
